WhatsOnStage Awards Launch Party

Last week on my day off from being a Fairy, I toddled down to the launch party for the WhatsOnstage Awards, arm-in-arm with my one of my favourite bloggers-in-crime Rebecca from Official Theatre.

Leicester Square’s Cafe De Paris was dripping in fancy sparkles, festive decs and with theatreland’s finest (and er, me). I haven’t actually ventured into Cafe De Paris since I was a bright-eyed drama school student rampaging around the Spotlight Ball (and if I’m honest, I actually remember the KFC round the corner more vividly) and BOY it looked swanky. Lovely waiters swanned about offering drinks and tasty canapes (can confirm for the first time in my life that caviar is actually delicious- p.s WHO THE BLOODY HELL DO I THINK I AM EATING CAVIAR HAHAHAHA!)

After a little bit of a schmooze (and after I had some some very *ahem* subtle celeb spotting), it was time for the ceremony to begin. The cast of The Play That Goes Wrong opened the awards, following their win for Best New Comedy last year, with a predictably disastrous and hilarious powerpoint presentation that, yep, went wrong. (Side note- that play is FUCKING BRILLIANT by the way. Literally go and see it now. GO NOW!)

Ooh everyone loves a good backdrop eh?!

All the categories and nominations were announced by Angela Griffin and Steve Furst to rapturous applause from all assembled- none more raucous than the company of Memphis who were nominated for TEN awards! To finish things off, we were treated to a rendition of ‘Buenos Aires’ from Evita from Madalena Alberto who blew everyone AWAY with her cracking set of pipes.

Voting is now open to the public- simply pop along to their dedicated voting page to have your say and cast your vote! I’ve done it! All winners will be announced at the Official Awards Concert on 15th February. For tickets to this, hop along and purchase yours here.

WHAT A LOVELY AFTERNOON. Also, I just bloody love a free bar. LOVE YOU BYE!
