Pub Pondering: The Prince of Wales Feathers, Warren Street
After spending a day gadding about in the Museum of London I was knackered. It’s pretty taxing trying on loads of comedy hats. As it was Sunday, there was only one thing for it- a Sunday Roast. My pal Ed and I wandered up a drizzly Tottenham Court Road to the Prince of Wales Feathers.
Tucked away in a side street a stone’s throw away from Warren Street tube, this lovely little pub was pleasantly quiet for a weekend. A squashy corner sofa called our name and we settled down with a well earned BEER.
Back in February, we took my Dad to the Fullers Brewery in Chiswick for a tour for his 50th which ended in an glorious tasting session. Although a pint of London Pride always goes down a treat, this is my favourite beer that Fullers produce. It’s brewed with organic honey, which gives it a slightly sweet edge resulting in a light, zesty drink. An excellent ‘girls beer’ if you will.
We both ordered the half chicken Sunday Roast and a portion of whitebait to share. The whitebait could have been slightly crispier, but the roast was DELICIOUS. Piled high on our plates and accompanied by extra portions of veg, we were exceptionally happy.
As we munched we noticed a couple settle in for the evening with a bottle of wine and a stack of board games that are available to use from behind the bar. The pub was quietly quirky, lots of nice little touches dotted about but without being insistent.
If you’re in central London and gasping for a slurp, definitely check this place out. I’ll certainly be back to try my hand at the pub quiz and to play a game of Boggle. HANDY HINT: If you sign up for their mailing list online, you’ll be rewarded with a FREE Tanquery and Tonic. I don’t care what they say, bribes definitely work.
Thanks Prince of Wales Feathers, you might just be the best named pub in town!
